A new simplified cargo entry project is to be launched by US customs in the near future. Qualified importers will be able to submit entry data on cargo pre arrival into US ports and customs can release the goods speedily, assuming everything is in order.
Prior to this, the 10+2 rule, which is also known as the ISF rule, requires importers to report 10 data elements no more than 24 hours after a shipment leaves a foreign port which is destined for the US. the new cargo entry project will require additional information to this such as a 10 digit Harmonised Tarrif Code.
