According to a GAC report

“Lower pirate attack success rates and improved vessel security measures are likely to result in
more audacious and violent attacks occurring,”

In September alone two ships were commandeered by pirates along with 24 crew members. Pirates covering the Gulf of Aden, the Red Sea and East African shipping lanes netted an astronomical €22.9m in September charging $4.9m on average per vessel release.
